Write Place-Write Time

Are you a writer?

Not are you a published author, but do you write? If you answer, ‘Yes,’ then Write Place-Write Time is the group for you.

We meet at the Tralee Library from 6:30 to 8 pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

We will be using the Parallel Play model. Think of it as positive peer pressure. Rather than indulging in procrastination or getting distracted, we have each other to hold us accountable to putting words on the page. We socialize for a bit, then work quietly on our own projects before coming back together to discuss and share our work (if we’re brave enough).

What to bring?

Whatever you need to do your writing. Some writers prefer to write by hand on paper or a notebook while others use laptops or tablets. I’m sorry, but if you have a huge, noisy typewriter, you’ll need to leave that at home. It’s a library!

If you have something to be critiqued or edited, you will need to bring printed out copies.

Critiques & Feedback

Here at Write Place-Write Time we believe that while the goal of feedback is to help the writer improve whatever they’re currently working on, another (and no less important) goal is to encourage them to keep on writing.

But how to give a critique that is tactful, honest, and helpful? Check out some suggestions of what to do here as well as what NOT to do here.

Remember, positive feedback and encouragement are better than being ‘brutally honest’. No one wants that. Certainly not writers!

Please note: Our group is open to all ages, which can include younger writers and/or children, so anything you bring to the group must be suitable for ALL ages.

Rough Schedule

  • 6:30 to 6:40 – Arrival / Socializing

  • 6:40 to 7:10 – Writing Prompt / Free Writing

  • 7:10 to 7:20 – Break Time / Socializing

  • 7:20 to 7:45 – Writing Prompt / Free Writing

  • 7:45 – 8:00 – Assignments / Socializing

What Types of Writing Will We Be Doing?

All of them. Whether you’re writing a novel, a memoir, a short story collection, a series, children’s books, graphic novels, or creative non-fiction, Write Place-Write Time provides time to focus on progressing your project(s).

Meet Your Hosts

Molly is a reader, writer, and editor who loves sci-fi and fantasy especially. She is also a huge linguistics nerd who enjoys developing conlangs in her vanishingly small amount of spare time.

Abi is an academic at heart with creative tendencies and an overdeveloped sense of justice. She dabbles in memoir and cozy crime fiction when she’s not making the world (and her garden) a better place.
